Some of the processors I've worked with over the past thirty years...

The 8088

intel 8088 standard and ceramic

Based on similar architecture to the 8080/8085 intel produced the 8086. The 8088, seen here, is
a lower cost, reduced external bus version of that. The 8088 was used in early PC type systems
to keep costs down , needing 8-bit data busses rather than 16-bit. The 8086 and the 8088 were
later developed into the 80186,80286... and the 80188. an 8087 and later an 80287 co-processor
could be used with these processors. As the first IBM pc systems used the 8088 and 8086 CPUs
and due to the ease of developing software on the PC, they became quite common in embedded
control and turn up in some interesting places. I have worked on many 80186 based communication
terminals and radio devices. They are generally easy to work with and fault-find / repair.
